The Elder Law Program provides legal assistance to older Delawareans.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Anyone who is age 60 or older. There are no financial eligibility
requirements for the Elder Law
Program.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Visit the CLASI office nearest you or call the central referral number
1-800-773-0606 and they will
connect you to the appropriate office. The receptionist will ask you for
intake information. This is
required by our funding sources before we can serve you. If you are
eligible for services, and you have
a legal problem that we handle, your information will be given to a member
of our legal staff who will
review it and contact you.
WHAT PROBLEMS ARE HANDLED BY THE ELDER LAW PROGRAM?
- Powers of Attorney and Advance Health Care Directives (formerly known
as Living Wills)
- Consumer problems such as debt collection and home repair cases (Click here for consumer information);
- Housing problems such as evictions (Click here for housing information);
- Benefits issues such as Medicaid and Social Security (Click here for benefits information).
Note: The Elder Law Program does not do simple wills.
The Elder Law Program also conducts community legal education workshops for older people about some of the legal problems that occur with advancing age.
Legal Handbook for Older Delawareans
CLASI publishes the Legal Handbook for Older Delawareans. Prepared by the Delaware State Bar Association's Committee on Law and the Elderly, the Handbook provides a wealth of information for older Delawareans.
