Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. (“CLASI”) attorney Megan Mahle has been named a 2022 \u201cTop Lawyer\u201d<\/a> by Delaware Today<\/em> magazine. She was voted the top victims\u2019 rights lawyer in Delaware, based on a poll of lawyers across the state.<\/p>\n

Over the course of her 12 years at CLASI, Megan has represented close to 1,000 clients. She is the supervising attorney of CLASI\u2019s Programa de colaboraci\u00f3n m\u00e9dico-legal<\/a>, which partners with health and social service providers statewide to address health-harming social needs, including domestic violence, immigration, and housing issues. Megan provides holistic legal services to survivors of sexual assault, family violence, dating violence, and stalking, in order to address their immediate and long-term safety needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cMegan never shies away from the difficult cases with hard issues,\u201d says CLASI Deputy Director Laura Graham. \u201cShe is incredibly loyal, devoted, and committed to the zealous representation of all of her clients. She cares deeply about her clients as human beings and empathizes with their problems. I have tremendous respect for her, and for her work. She is absolutely deserving of this award and honor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through the Medical-Legal Partnership Program, Megan provides expert advice and representation to survivors regarding civil protective orders, custody\/visitation rights, divorce, and support. She also takes on family law matters, including dependency\/neglect cases, for vulnerable clients including pregnant and postpartum women living in poverty and clients experiencing mental health or substance use issues.<\/p>\n

In addition to handling family law cases, Megan and CLASI\u2019s team of advocates also assist survivors with maintaining their housing, advocating for them when landlords take adverse actions related to their victimization. They also help to address public benefits and healthcare concerns, and to apply for victim-based immigration status where appropriate. This advocacy in turn helps to empower survivors to leave their abusers and access other supportive services to help them maintain their independence and safety.<\/p>\n
